Abbreviations and terms⚓︎

ADR and UDR⚓︎

Automotive Dead Reckoning and Untethered Dead Reckoning. Both are procedures that improve the position determination in urban areas. With the ADR method, the GNSS positions of the global navigation systems are coordinated with the current position. The UDR technology works with a UDR module that determines the vehicle’s acceleration and turns and calculates the current position from the last known GNSS position.

API⚓︎

An Application Programming Interface is a programming interface that is made available by a software provider. It allows other softwares to interact with the program.

API call⚓︎

API calls are interactions with the CloudBoxx API, such as sending a command to a CloudBoxx. This could be a click on the Request Status button in FleetControl or a direct interaction with the CloudBoxx API. Both types of interaction will be associated with your CloudBoxx API key.

BLE⚓︎

Bluetooth Low Energy. A variant of Bluetooth that uses less power by processing smaller amounts of data.

CDF⚓︎

Can Description File. This file contains all data read by us from a specific CAN bus. Each car needs its own CDF.

Device health⚓︎

The device health consist of three indicators: Events, heartbeats and signal strength. It describes the overall condition of the device’s connectivity and usage. FleetControl calculates the device health periodically for every single device.

ECU/ECM⚓︎

Electronic Control Unit or Module

Events⚓︎

Events are sets of data that are generated by the CloudBoxx when an event reason is detected. Event reasons are significant occurrences, such as ignition changed or immobilizer unlocked. Each event contains the device state at the time of the event creation.

Fleet⚓︎

Your fleet consists of your devices and vehicles.

GSM⚓︎

Global System for Mobile is a mobile radio standard which is used for data transmission and short messages.

HDOP⚓︎

Horizontal Dilution Of Precision is a term used to describe the impact of the current satellite configuration or geometry on the accuracy of the data collected by a GPS or GNSS receiver at the time of use.

Heartbeats⚓︎

Heartbeats are generated by devices every 15 minutes and sent to the CloudBoxx server. A heartbeat contains connectivity information, such as provider and signal strength. Heartbeats indicate the connection’s existence and quality.

HMAC⚓︎

Hash-based Message Authentication Code is a message authentication code that uses a cryptographic key in conjunction with a hash function to authenticate between server and client.

JSON⚓︎

Telematics unit ID⚓︎

The Telematics Unit ID, previously QNR, is the identification number of a CloudBoxx. It can be used in the API or FleetControl to identify and access the device.

(Access) token⚓︎

In computer systems, an (access) token contains the security credentials for a login session and identifies the user, the user’s groups, the user’s privileges, and, in some cases, a particular application.
